This lovely lady helped us at The food market “Trading store” at the House & Garden Show in July 2010. Sadly she was involved in a tragic car accident early October 2010 which left her in Empangeni hospital in a coma for a week and with 2 broken arms and 2 young children to support. Thank you to the generous donations of the following traders who took part in the H&G show (Jennings Fudge info@jenningsfinefoods.co.za, Imbali Blends Herb Salts danielle@imbaliblends.co.za, Tracey’s deli traceysdeli@iafrica.com, Dolce Italian Desserts piaredding@telkomsa.net, Martinnaise taste@martinnaise.co.za, Bon Moment Bakers sottovocce@iafrica.com, Made at home Jams sarahjonsson@vodamail.co.za, Biltong Nut hunterlcc@telkomsa.net, CJ Agencies delserv@mweb.co.za and Olive-a-twist alexa@eastcoastsa.net and the partners of The food market info@thefoodmarket.co.za) we raised R1,340 to assist her and her family through this difficult time.

We have chosen and appointed Ms Agnes Mhlongo of Women in Beads as one of our CSI initiatives for the food market.
Agnes is the most wonderfully spirited and ambitious woman who will not allow circumstantial obstacles to stand in her way and sees an opportunity in every situation.
She is absolutely delightful – come and see her custom made table ware bead work in green, black and white !
Sunflower Fund
Bag a designer shopping bag at The food market at the Hellenic Community Centre in Durban North and contribute to two very worthy causes. The Sunflower Fund has given the Hillcrest Aids Centre the sunflower bandanas collected through their 2009 ‘Rope of Hope’ Campaign to be made into funky but useful shopping bags. The bags will be on sale for R25 from The food market information stand from 8.00am to 2.00pm and all proceeds will be split between The Sunflower Fund and the Hillcrest Aids Centre.
The public are also encouraged to drop off their sunflower bandanas at the information stand to be recycled into shopping bags in turn benefitting the two charities. The Sunflower Fund is on a mission to sell all their 2009 bandanas and make their R3million target to be used for the tissue typing of potential donors for inclusion on the South African Bone Marrow Registry. The more donors on the registry the more hope children and young adults diagnosed with leukaemia have of finding their life saving donor match. Please contact Shelley on 0800 12 10 82 to buy a couple of bandanas or a box of 100 for R2000 so that The Sunflower Fund can distribute them to The Hillcrest Aids Centre, The Robinhood Foundation, Westville Prison and other orphanages and old ages homes in KwaZulu Natal to be made into shopping bags, duvet covers, pillow cases, curtains and cot bumpers. Please specify that you are phoning from KwaZulu Natal.
